Privacy policy

What we collect

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are read and which buy buttons are clicked. That gives us aggregated information such as page views, approximate location at country or region level, device type, browser, and where visitors arrived from. Google Analytics sets cookies to do this.

We look at that data in aggregate. We do not try to identify individual visitors from it and we have no interest in doing so. Google’s own handling of the data it collects is governed by Google’s privacy policy.

Affiliate click tracking

When you click a buy button we record an event noting which merchant and which page, so we can tell which parts of the site are useful. That event does not identify you. When you arrive at a retailer from one of our links, the retailer sets its own cookie to attribute the referral, and that cookie is governed by the retailer’s privacy policy, not ours. The contact form

If you use the contact form, we receive the name, email address, subject and message you type in. That message is delivered to our own mailbox by email. We use it to reply to you and to act on what you have told us.

We do not add contact form senders to a mailing list, because we do not run one. We do not pass your message to anyone else.

Server logs

Our hosting provider keeps standard request logs, which include IP addresses, as part of operating the service. We use the IP address of a contact form submission only to enforce a per-hour submission limit that keeps automated spam out.

What we do not collect

• We do not run a newsletter, so there is no mailing list.
• We do not require or offer accounts, so there are no passwords.
• We do not take payments, so we never see card details.
• We do not use advertising networks, retargeting pixels or social tracking pixels.
• We do not sell, rent or share personal information with anyone.

Cookies

The site itself does not require cookies to function. Cookies that are set come from Google Analytics, and from retailers once you follow an affiliate link to them. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will continue to work normally if you do.

Third parties involved

• Vercel hosts the site and processes requests.
• Google Analytics provides the analytics described above.
• Microsoft delivers contact form messages to our mailbox.
• Retailers such as Amazon, once you click through to them, under their own policies.

How long we keep things

Contact form messages are kept in our mailbox for as long as they are useful for handling the conversation and any correction arising from it. Analytics data is retained per Google Analytics’ configured retention period. If you would like a message you sent us deleted, ask and we will delete it.

Your choices

• Block cookies or use a browser that blocks analytics.
• Ask us what we hold about you, or ask us to delete it, by emailing info@floatandfilter.com.
• Simply do not use the contact form, in which case we hold nothing about you at all.

Children

This site is written for adults maintaining hot tubs and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the date at the top of this page changes with it. We do not silently rewrite pages — the same rule as everything else on this site, set out in the editorial policy.
